About Your Host

Heather Leavitt Martinez is a versatile fine and commercial artist with a foundation in printmaking and photography. Over the years, she has explored nearly every medium, including ceramics, sculpture, and graphic design. In addition to lettering, Heather is the author of an award-winning book. She now teaches online and small, in-person lettering classes at her studio, Let’s Letter Together! in The ArtRoom, and is recognized in her community as an arts advocate, coach, and mentor.

Heather began her work as a visual practitioner in 2011 while working with KornFerry, a leadership development company. She quickly realized her passion for creating teams of graphic facilitators and pitched her idea to a systems engineering start-up in Washington, DC. This led to her role as a co-founder, art director, and scrum master of the Visioneering team. Later, as a senior consultant for the intelligence community, Heather worked closely with organizational change managers to develop visual facilitation guides and support multi-day offsites for agency directors.

In 2016, after the administration change in DC, Heather took a gap year to travel across North America in a 1947 teardrop trailer. During this time, she kept a blog, wrote a book, created a platform for training visual practitioners in lettering, and attended three month-long artist residencies to focus on her fine art.

Heather holds arts administration training from the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and Colorado Creative Industries (CCI). She was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and CCI to expand her art career coaching model.
